Famed Actress And Singer Irene Cara Passes Away At Age 63

Irene Cara

Irene Cara, a famous vocalist best known for her role in the film Flashdance, passed away at the age of 63. The 1980 film Fame’s theme song, as well as the co-written and performed mega single Flashdance… What a Feeling for which she received an Oscar and a Grammy, is what made the American singer and actress most well-known.

Later, she appeared in movies with Tatum O’Neal and Clint Eastwood. Cara passed away at home in Florida, according to her publicist, who also stated that the cause of death is “still unknown.”

Cara began her career on Spanish-language TV in 1959. She was the youngest of five children and was born in the Bronx, New York City. Her mother was Cuban-American and her father was Puerto Rican.

She began recording music when she was young, both in Spanish and English, and later made appearances in several Broadway musicals.

However, it was in 1980 that Cara became famous after landing the role of Coco Hernandez and singing the film’s theme song.

She has been nominated for Best Actress at the 1981 Golden Globe Awards thanks to her performance.

Later, Cara co-wrote and sang the vocals on the hit song Flashdance… What A Feeling from the 1983 film smash Flashdance, for which she was nominated for both an Academy Award and a Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

In the end, Flashdance earned the third-highest box office total in 1983.

Cara was recognized as a “beautifully endowed person whose legacy will live forever via her music and films” by her publicist, Judith A. Moose.

She added that when Cara passed away, she was working on upcoming projects, which she and the singer’s manager now intend to complete.

On her official Twitter account, Ms. Moose stated of her client, “She’d want that.”
