Elfrid Payton’s Basketball and College Careers

Elfrid Payton attended Jefferson Parish High School in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. Following an impressive rookie season in 2011-12, he enrolled at Louisiana Lafayette. Elfrid Payton was a sophomore at University in 2012-13.

Per game, he averaged 15.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 2.4 steals. Elfrid Payton was named to the Sun Belt Conference’s First Team. Payton was the final name on Team USA’s U19 World Championships Trials Roster for the 2013 FIBA U19 World Championship.

Payton managed to earn a gold medal with a team, going 9-0 throughout the event. As a junior in 2013-14, Payton established himself as one of the best defensive players in college basketball. He increased his per-game averages to 19.2 points, 5.9 assists, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.3 steals.

Payton agreed to terms with the Orlando Magic on a rookie scale contract. He had a season-high 22 points and 12 assists against the Memphis Grizzlies in January 2015.

Payton agreed to terms with the New Orleans Pelicans in July of 2018. In his debut game with the New Orleans Pelicans in October 2018, he averaged 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists in a 131-112 victory over the Houston Rockets.

With 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists, he recorded his first triple-double for the Pelicans. It was his 11th triple-double of the season. In November, he was ruled out for six weeks owing to a damaged right ankle and a fractured finger.
