Eileen Gu- Biography

Eileen Gu, sometimes known as Ailing Gu, is a Chinese-born professional skier who has competed for China in halfpipe, slopestyle, and big air events since 2019. Despite being born in the United States, she chose Chinese nationality and now represents China in all international tournaments. She will be seen competing in the future Winter Olympics 2022, but for the Chinese team due to her Chinese mother.

Eileen Gu- Birth, Age, Ethnicity, Siblings, Education

Eileen Gu was born on September 3, 2003, in San Francisco, California, to a Chinese mother and an American father. Yan Gu, her mother, immigrated to the United States from China in her twenties and attended Auburn University and Rockefeller University. Her mother first skied at Hunter Mountain in New York State while attending the latter; her interest in the sport blossomed after relocating to the San Francisco Bay Area to get an MBA at Stanford University. Gu’s mother reportedly enrolled her little daughter in ski training at Lake Tahoe in order for her to keep up with her. Gu characterized her mother as having “essentially built a professional skier.” Gu attended Auburn University and Rockefeller University for her collegiate education.

Eileen Gu- Relationship, Married Life

Let us now discuss Gu’s relationship. Because most individuals these days are hunting for information on their boyfriend on the internet, we’d like to let you know that she has not made her relationship status public.

Eileen Gu- Professional Career

Eileen won two gold medals in “Freeski Slopestyle” and “Freeski Halfpipe” at the Freestyle Ski & Snowboarding World Championships (FIS) 2021. She recently became one of the first and youngest freeskiers to earn gold medals at the FIS Freeski World Championships. Eileen Gu also competed in “Freeski Big Air,” winning a medal but being injured with a fractured hand. She has a second career as a model, and she has worked for a number of brands and magazines, as well as being a regular model at the Catwalk Show.

Eileen’s work has also been featured in VOGUE, ELLE, and the Victoria’s Secret Collective. She is currently the brand ambassador for Tiffany & Co. During the COVID-19 outbreak, Gu spoke out against anti-Asian rhetoric in the United States, and she supported the Black Lives Matter movement. She has also been described as a “passionate champion for gender equality and female representation in sports.”

The Problem of Citizenship

Chinese law does not recognize dual citizenship. Minors of Chinese ancestry under the age of 18 may petition for Chinese citizenship through a parent or guardian, with the caveat that if their application is successful, they may lose their foreign citizenship. The United States does not enable citizens under the age of 16 to renounce their citizenship, and those under the age of 18 are subject to extra safeguards. It also allows minors under the age of 18 who renounce their citizenship to reclaim it for six months after reaching the age of 18.

As a result, Gu can have sole Chinese citizenship from a Chinese perspective while having dual nationality from an exterior perspective. Gu has received criticism on social media for her decision to transfer national representation, as well as for presumably neglecting to renounce her American citizenship as required by Chinese nationality legislation.
