EastEnders Actor Bill Treacher Passes Away At Age 92

Bill Treacher

Actor Bill Treacher, who portrayed Arthur Fowler on EastEnders, passed away at the age of 92, according to his family.

Treacher made his television debut in the first episode of the BBC One soap opera in February 1985, making him one of the show’s original actors.

His family stated in a statement that the actor’s health “had been worsening for some months.”

“Bill was a wonderful husband, father, and performer in addition to being a lovely person. He’ll be terribly missed, “they claimed.

According to his family, the actor passed away on Saturday. They added that he was “deeply loved by his wife, Kate, his son, Jamie, and his daughter, Sophie.”

From 1985 to 1996, Treacher made appearances on EastEnders.

A representative for EastEnders stated: “We were deeply saddened to learn of Bill Treacher’s demise. Bill created Arthur Fowler, one of our beloved original cast members, and together with Wendy Richard, they also created the Fowlers, an iconic family who continue to be the center of the program.

“The fact that Bill is still regarded with such affection after leaving EastEnders in 1996 is a wonderful credit to both him and the character he fashioned in Arthur. Bill will always be remembered for his charm, sense of humor, and most importantly, as a dedicated husband and father who brightened up the room with his grin.

Bill will always be cherished by everyone at EastEnders and by everyone who enjoyed watching him.

Among those paying tribute were his co-stars Gillian Taylforth, who plays Kathy Beale, and Letitia Dean, who portrays Sharon Watts.

Bill always had glitter in his eyes, Taylforth remarked,

“typically before he mischievously started us off laughing during scenes.” She continued, “I have so many happy memories of Bill.”

Added Dean “The set’s life and soul truly belonged to Bill. He was a perfectionist actor who went to great pains to portray Arthur in everything from minor details to devastating tales. Bill was a nice man and a true professional.

Adam Woodyatt, a former EastEnders celebrity, said: “Many of my recollections of working with Bill involve him turning us into corpses.

“You would start giggling when he had this glint in his eye, but he was never held accountable. He used to fumble and bluster until the right word came out when he was attempting to recall his lines during rehearsal, and I used to enjoy it.”

Treacher lived in Suffolk for a considerable amount of time with his wife, the Australian actress Katherine Kessey, and their two children.

He claimed in 2015 that he had ataxia, a condition that can impair speech, balance, and coordination.

Treacher played a problematic character in EastEnders who was sentenced to prison for a crime he did not commit until 1996.

After having a mental breakdown while incarcerated, Arthur passed away from a brain hemorrhage at his cherished allotment a few days after being released in 1996.

The Fowler family was devastated when he passed away in the hospital.

Following the death of his character, Treacher had appearances in The Bill, Casualty, The Musketeer, Tale Of The Mummy, and George And The Dragon, among other movies.
