Dr. Swati Mohan did many tests on the International Space Station (ISS) with some MIT alumni astronauts such as Dan Tani and Greg Chamitoff while with SPHERES.

She was also a member of the Graduate Student Council, the Sidney-Pacific Residence Hall, which contains the Sidney-Pacific Inter-Cultural Exchange (SPICE), and the Graduate Association of Aeronautics and Astronauts (GA3) student organizations during her stay at MIT. Quantitative Selection and Design of Model Generation Architectures for On-Orbit Autonomous Assembly is part of her thesis.

Swati works at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), a NASA field center in the city of La Canada Flintridge in Pasadena, California. JPL is a federally financed research and development laboratory. She is the Mars 2020 mission’s Guidance and Controls Operations Lead. Dr. Mohan joined NASA’s Mars 2020 mission in 2013, shortly after the team was put together. She is a NASA Perseverance Rover specialist, and her responsibilities include ensuring that the spaceship carrying the Perseverance rover was properly coursed and oriented during its journey to Mars, as well as during the rover’s landing on the planet’s surface.

She was also a member of the Discovery Program team at NASA, which employed high-quality gravitational mapping of the Moon to determine facts on its internal structure. The Gravity Recovery and Interior Laboratory was the name of this project (GRAIL). Dr. Swati Mohan was also a part of the Cassini-Huygens space research mission, better known as Cassini. NASA, the European Space Agency (ESA), and the Italian Space Agency (ASI) collaborated on this mission, which aimed to send a space probe to Saturn and its system, as well as its rings and natural satellites.
