The British businessman served as chairman of several English football organizations, including West Ham United (jointly) from 2010 until his death and Birmingham City Football Club until 2009.

He was a devoted West Ham fan who played a significant role in the club’s takeover in 2010 before serving as Birmingham City’s chairman for 12 years.

On the morning of January 4, 2023, David Gold passed away with his fiancee and daughters by his side. The 86-year-old died after only a brief illness.

In 1957, David Gold wed Beryl Hunt, his first love. At the time, he was 21.

When David discovered Beryl having an affair with his closest friend in his swimming pool 15 years later, in 1972, the couple decided to get a divorce. It took place the same day that David discovered his Father stealing his shares.

Even before departing for the honeymoon, according to David, he was aware that he had made a mistake.

Daughters Jacqueline and Vanessa Gold were his only children, and Beryl, who passed away in 2003, was their mother.

Both of his daughters have managed businesses in the same way as their father.

At Ann Summers and Knickerbox Ltd., Jacqueline, 62, serves as CEO, and Vanessa, 57, as MD.

Jacqueline Summers Gold CBE, the daughter of businessmen David Gold and Beryl Hunt, was born on July 16, 1960, in Bromley, Kent, England.

Jacqueline and her sister Vanessa were raised in a large, three-story house with a garden and a pool in Biggin Hill, Kent.

She is a British businesswoman that serves as the Chief Executive of organizations including Knickerbox, Gold Group International, and Ann Summers.

According to the 2019 Sunday Times Rich List, Jacqueline was ranked as the 16th richest woman in Great Britain, with a net worth of £470 million.

She established the Summers empire in 1981 by establishing risqué House parties, where women congregated to discuss female items.

Jacqueline played the lead role in episode 2 of The House I Grew Up In on BBC Radio 4 in August 2007.

She spoke about her difficult childhood throughout the series. David cried when she was born because he desired a son, and when she was 12 her parents divorced.

David Gold was reared in East London, close to West Ham’s Boleyn Ground, after being born in Stepney. He was Rose Gold’s and Godfrey Gold’s son.

Godfrey, often known as Goldy in the neighborhood, was David’s father and an East End crook who served time in prison when David was a young boy.

David played youth football with West Ham, where he was allowed to sign documents as an apprentice professional for the first team. His father was asked to countersign the documents, but he declined.

He and Bob Harris collaborated on the 2005 autobiography Pure Gold, in which he discusses his upbringing in poverty, rise to success in business, and involvement with Birmingham City.

David Gold and his family were valued at £460 million according to the Sunday Times Rich List in 2020, making him a perfect example of a person who overcame adversity to become wealthy.
