From 2010 until he died in 2023, he held the joint chairman position at West Ham United.

Gold Group International (GGI), the parent company of the store Ann Summers and the lingerie chain Knickerbox, was his property.

Gold and his brother Ralph co-owned GGI until Gold bought Ralph’s part in 2008.

He and his brother Ralph both owned a portion of the adult magazine publisher Gold Star Publications (GSP).

Businesses also include several magazines, such as Rustler and Raider, as well as printing and distribution companies.

How Did West Ham Chairman David Gold Die?

After a brief illness, David Gold, a co-chairman of West Ham, died at the age of 86.

David Gold has been in charge at West Ham since 2010, and Sullivan said of him: “He always wanted what was best for West Ham United, and his passing is a sad loss for all of us.”

“West Ham United FC confirms that our beloved joint-chairman David Gold passed away on Wednesday morning following a brief illness,” read a statement from West Ham.

David Gold, 86, died peacefully with his loving daughters Jacqueline and Vanessa, as well as his fiancée Lesley, by his side.

Since purchasing majority ownership in West Ham in 2010, Gold and David Sullivan have shared management of the team. He was Birmingham City’s chairman and co-owner before 2009.

Gold was a loyal West Ham fan who took part in the club’s junior teams and grew up close to the Boleyn Ground, the team’s historic home.

David Gold Gold was born in Stepney and raised in East London at 442 Green Street, not far from West Ham’s Boleyn Ground.

While he was a West Ham young football player, his father was requested to sign forms as an apprentice professional for the first team.

When Gold was a little child, his father, an East End gangster known as “Goldy” in the neighborhood, was imprisoned. His father was Jewish, but his mother was a Christian.

He and his brother sold their stakes in November 2006. The brothers also sold their stock in Sport Newspapers in 2007 due to dwindling sales and profitability.

He owned the business airline Gold Air International until he sold it in 2006 for £4.4 million.

David Gold’s personal life begins with his 1957 marriage to Beryl Hunt. He noticed his Father taking his shares on the same day.

In his swimming pool, Gold caught her having an affair with his best buddy, which led to their divorce in 1972. Hunt passed away in 2003. They had two children:

The CEO of Ann Summers and Knickerbox Ltd., Jacqueline Gold, was born in 1960. Vanessa Gold, who was born in 1966, is the managing director of Ann Summers and Knickerbox Ltd.

In 2005, Gold co-wrote his autobiography Pure Gold with Bob Harris. This focuses on his early destitution, commercial success, and ties to Birmingham City.

Since May 2012, he and his fiancée Lesley Manning have lived in Caterham, Surrey.

Following the club’s relocation from the Boleyn Ground to the London Stadium in 2016, Gold encountered protests from sections of West Ham fans.

These supporters, who were upset by the decision, accused Gold of robbing the club of funds and being a “fraud.”

As of 2020, Gold and his family are expected to be worth £460 million, according to the Sunday Times Rich List.

David Gold passed suddenly early on January 4, 2023, with his daughters and fiancée at his side.
