Dateline Amber Belkin Murder | Killer Geovany Rivera Sentence To Life Prison

Amber Belkin

The murder of Amber Belken is investigated in the Dateline episode “Everything She Knew.” Amber Belken, a 25-year-old woman from San Antonio, Texas, oversaw an EB Games store. On January 29, 2007, the tiny young lady’s body was discovered in the storeroom.

During a robbery at the shop, she was choked with a bag. Geovany Rivera, an ex-EB Games employee who now works for Belken, committed the murder and fled to Mexico to avoid capture. He was on the U.S. Marshal’s “15 Most Wanted” list of wanted fugitives.

Rivera was apprehended by Mexican police and turned himself in to US Marshals in Texas a year later. Rivera, 25, agreed to a plea bargain in 2010 in order to avoid the death penalty and accept a life sentence in prison.

Dateline What Happened to Amber Belkin After Her Murder?

Amber Belken, the 25-year-old manager of an EB Games video game store, was murdered, and her case is featured in the Dateline episode “Everything She Knew.”

After the first manager’s delay in opening the gaming shop, another manager was called in to check on her and the store. She was discovered in the back of the establishment. He came across her suffocating in a sack. Amber’s murderer was not apprehended for over a year.

Geovany Rivera attempted to recruit a friend to help him rob Amber’s store on the morning of her death, but there was insufficient evidence to link Geovany to the crime. Finally, investigators matched Geovany’s DNA to a hair recovered around Amber’s body.

Geovany Rivera, the murderer, was sentenced to life in prison

Geovany Rivera, a former San Antonio video game industry employee who killed the manager during a heist, was sentenced to life in prison. He fled to Mexico after the murder in January 2007, only to be apprehended the following year. Rivera admitted to the murder as part of a plea bargain.

He was sentenced to death for the murder of Amber Belken, 25, on Tuesday. Rivera will be eligible for parole in 30 years. The defense attorney, Terry McDonald, claims that Rivera never intended to murder anyone and that he needed the money to pay his family’s rent and buy food. Because Geovany Rivera needed to be extradited from Mexico, prosecutors were forced to drop the death penalty. Rivera continued to negotiate a guilty plea, lowering his charges from capital murder to murder.

What Were the Motives for the Murder?

Geovany’s attorney claimed after his arrest that his client had only intended to loot on the morning of Amber’s death to cover his family’s living expenses. The problem was that Amber recognized him. Geovany Rivera was sentenced to life in prison for killing Amber in 2010, and Amber’s father allegedly told him that Amber was their soul.

Leticia Rodriguez, an Amber acquaintance, expressed her joy at his averting the death penalty. She expressed her delight that he is serving every day. According to the gaming website Kotaku, Rivera’s arrest in 2008 resulted in one of the largest rewards in San Antonio history, $100,000, of which $95,000 was provided by EB Games.
