Dan McCafferty The Lead Singer Of Nazareth Band Passed Away At The Age Of 76

Dan McCafferty

On November 8, 2022, at the age of 76, Dan McCafferty, a well-known lead singer of the hard rock band Nazareth, passed away. His bandmate Pete Agnew shared the information on Facebook, writing:

Dan passed away at 12:40 PM today. The hardest news I’ve ever had to deliver is this. The world has lost one of the greatest voices of all time, and Maryann and her family have lost a lovely, devoted husband and father. I have also lost my closest friend. I can’t say any more right now because I’m too sad.

On Tuesday (November 8), Dan McCafferty passed away. Although his bandmate Pete announced the news on social media, he omitted to specify the cause of death. Despite having several health issues, it is unknown if these contributed to McCafferty’s passing.

Due to health issues, McCafferty stopped touring with Nazareth in August 2013. Dan confirmed that he never experienced a stroke, despite what had been previously claimed in the news, by disclosing his medical difficulties to the UK music magazine Classic Rock.

Dan claimed that the same year (2013) while performing in Canada, he passed out due to ruptured stomach cancer. When questioned about the incident, he said he thought he would be fine but that people lose a lot of blood when that happens.

Born on October 14, 1946, Dan McCafferty was influenced by artists like Little Richard, Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, and Otis Redding. He co-founded Nazareth and toured for 45 years with them, appearing on records with them up until 2014.

The band’s most popular songs, such as Broken Down Angel and Bad Bad Boy, were co-written by Dan as well. McCafferty began a solo career and produced three albums. He stopped traveling in 2013, however, he occasionally performs live and records.

From his album Last Testament, which was released in October 2019, he debuted the song video for Tell Me in June 2019. Among his survivors are his wife, whose name is unknown, and their two children.
