Damon Arnette’s Professional Career

Damon started 13 of Ohio State’s games as a true freshman after serving as a crucial reserve at defensive back and finishing with 21 tackles and one interception. As a redshirt sophomore, he appeared in 12 of the Buckeyes’ 14 games, leading the team with 44 tackles, two interceptions, and eight passes, earning him All-Big Ten Conference honors. As a junior, he had 40 tackles and one interception in 13 games, earning him honorable mention once more. Originally, he intended to quit the school and forfeit his last season of NCAA eligibility, which served as his entry into the 2019 NFL Draft.

However, he later elected to return to Ohio State and play for the final season of his draft eligibility. On September 14, 2019, he scored his first career touchdown and carried for 97 yards with an interception return against Indiana. At the end of the season, he was awarded second-team All-Big Ten. He nearly shattered his wrist while playing, but he didn’t give up and continued to play for his side. He finished the season with 35 tackles, 8 passes intercepted, and one interception.

NFL

Damon was taken in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Las Vegas Raiders with the 19th overall pick. Previously, the Raiders selected Khalil Mack with the 19th pick, however, he was later traded back to the Chicago Bears in 2018. Arnette was placed on reserve on October 2, 2020, due to a thumb injury. On the 19th of October, he was transferred to reserve due to COVID-19, then on the 30th of October, he was transferred back to the injured reserve. On November 14, 2020, he was activated to the active roster. He began the 2021 season as a backup cornerback before suffering a groin injury in Week 4 and was placed on the injured reserve.

Controversy

Damon is facing a lawsuit after being engaged in a hit-and-run accident in Nevada a little over a year ago. The case was filed on October 5th, this year (2021), and it says that Arnette crashed into a woman’s vehicle at 7:30 a.m. over a year ago on October 14th, 2020. Arnette was allegedly driving his vehicle at 65 mph at the time, claiming that he was on his way to an early morning meeting at the Raiders’ club headquarters. Furthermore, the crash occurred when Arnette collided with the woman’s vehicle at that high speed. However, the cornerback fled the scene of the accident and is now facing a lawsuit, which is tainting his reputation.
