Wilson Becoming an Evangelist and Johnston’s Hospitalization

When Johnston was in the hospital in May 1982, her husband, Wilson, became concerned when no visitors arrived, even though his nearest neighbors were only half a mile away. Wilson, despite his wealth, felt completely alone.

He later said in an interview that in 1982, he had a mystical experience. Wilson, feeling alone and defeated, appealed to Lord Jesus, saying, “If you put my family back together, if you give me my mind back, I’ll turn things around.”

Wilson soon immersed himself in the Bible and ministerial counseling, and within six months of the experience, he became an evangelist. When adjusting to his new identity as an evangelist, he gave up drinking, smoking and even dancing.

In the fall of 1984, Wilson was ordained as an international preacher. In 1984, he also sold his Beverly Hills home and relocated to Orange County with his wife and children. After that, he would only have a few acting roles.
