Children Of Angela Lansbury: How She Saved Their Life

Angela Lansbury

On October 11, 2022, Dame Angela Lansbury passed away. For decades, her stage and screen performances astonished audiences. Before starting her wildly successful Broadway run, Lansbury began her career in Hollywood.

The character Jessica Fletcher, a mystery author who solved crimes on CBS’ Murder, She Wrote, was Angela’s most well-known portrayal. The children of Dame Angels Lansbury are heartbroken to say that their mother passed away quietly in her sleep at home in Los Angeles at 1:30 a.m. today, Tuesday, October 11, 2022, just five days shy of her 97th birthday, according to a statement released by her family.

Lansbury regretted not spending more time with her Young Children

Lansbury became the stepmother to Peter Shaw’s son David after getting married to him in 1949 in London. Lansbury’s initial union with Richard Cromwell lasted for a while.

David said of Lansbury’s reception of him into the family: “She’s a great lady. She was not required to have me when I entered. It was a truly amazing thing to do. She always prioritized her family.

Anthony was welcomed by Peter and Lansbury in 1952, and Deirdre followed a year later. Although Lansbury’s profession was important, she told The Daily Mail that her children came first. She regrets having hurried back to work despite her haste. She uttered:

“But back then, any woman who could afford it had someone to help with child care. I immediately started a diet after giving birth, and I soon resumed my career. I regret doing that. It was a costly error. You must be present with your kids.”

In a 1984 interview with People, Lansbury echoed her statements: “Frankly I wish I had spent more time with my family and less time doing bad movies in those days.”

With roles in movies including A Bridge Too Far, The Martian Chronicles, and The Spy Who Loved Me, Anthony rose to fame as an actor and director. In 68 episodes of Murder, She Wrote, he served as Lansbury’s director.

Anthony and Lee Speer Webster, whom he married in 1980, have three children together: Ian, Peter John, and Katherine. In Los Angeles, California, Diedre and her husband Enzo Battara launched an Italian eatery. It appears that the restaurant has permanently closed.

By relocating her family to Ireland, Angela protected her children from drug usage and Charles Manson. Angela revealed to People in 1984 that Anthony and Diedre first experimented with narcotics in the 1960s. She spoke:

“When we lived in Malibu in the 1960s, drug addiction among young people was rampant; to these kids, it was as normal as chewing gum. In the 1950s, Peter and I were a typical Eisenhower-era couple. The 1960s, however, were devastating to our family.”

Diedre had joined a group that supported serial killer Charles Manson, according to Lansbury, who spoke to The Daily Mail. Deidre once joined a group that was led by Charles Manson, Lansbury added with sadness in her voice. Like many Manson devotees, according to Angela, Diedre was taken in by his charisma.

Angela Lansbury relocated the family to Ireland, the country of her mother’s birth, to keep her kids as far away from Malibu’s negative effects as possible. According to Lansbury,

“It was one of the best choices I’ve ever made. One of the few locations on the planet that was largely drug-free was there. It served as my spiritual home as well. I purchased an old stone home on 20 acres of property that had been constructed in 1825 for a vicar. Our lives were lovely.”

According to Lansbury, she took time off from work to spend more time with her kids. In the gorgeous Irish countryside, I went on lengthy strolls with my kids, Angela Lansbury recalled.

“I genuinely believed that I would give up my job and simply live my life.”

After learning that the kids were using drugs, Angela claimed that she and Peter were unsure of how to assist the kids. Lansbury claimed that she felt dreadful thinking about what would have occurred if the family had stayed in Malibu. She claimed that either Charles Manson or drugs would have claimed one or both of her children.

Anthony and Diedre were given methadone by a doctor they discovered in Ireland, which helped them deal with their withdrawal symptoms.
Deidre took longer to rehabilitate than Anthony, according to Angela Lansbury, but both kids were eventually able to kick their drug use. To Ireland’s Own, she stated:

“We purchased a home near Cork, and we took care of the gardens and my first attempt at cooking. We made use of all the garden’s produce, etc. Ireland provided us with a fresh start and ensured that the kids wouldn’t be exposed to any more damaging influences than they had in California.”
