In 1987, he began teaching students at The University of Pennsylvania Law School (Penn Law).

He published his book “Neighbors and Strangers Law and Community in Early Connecticut” with the University of North Carolina Press in 1987. His book’s digital version was released on September 14, 2010.

Following that, he wrote a book titled “Republic of Debtors Bankruptcy in the Age of American Independence,” which was released in 2002 by Harvard University Press. Aside from that, he published several essays and articles in historical magazines and law reviews. In addition, he co-edited “The Many Legalities of Early America” and served as an editor for “Law and History Review.”
