Bronny has always been interested in sports since he was a child. He used to be a basketball and soccer player. However, because LeBron James Sr. was concerned about his son’s safety, he forbade Bronny from playing American football or ice hockey. In June 2015, he guided the Gulf Coast Blue Chips AAU team to a fourth-grade championship at the League Dallas/ Hype Sports Summer Jam.

He was also instrumental in the North Coast Blue Chips winning the John Lucas All-Star Weekend title in Houston in March 2018. Furthermore, Blue Chips won the under-13 championship at the NY2LA Swish ‘N Dish competition in Wisconsin in April 2018. In June 2018, his squad qualified for the Jr. National Basketball Association quarterfinals. He joined the AAU team Strive for Greatness at the under 16 Nike Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL) in Indianapolis almost a year later, at the age of 14. He made his Sierra Canyon School debut by scoring 10 points in a game against Montgomery High School. During his game versus St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, he was also named Most Valuable Player. Bronny is the only high school player that has played in all 34 games this season.
