Roybal was only 15 years old when he first competed in the Paralympics for the 2014 United States Paralympic Sled Hockey Team, making him one of the event’s youngest participants. He was born without femurs in both legs, and as a result, he was unable to move. Roybal grew up with a love of softball and basketball, but he eventually discovered his passion for wrestling. His actual love became apparent to the public when he began getting attention at the age of eight in 2006 while attempting sled hockey.

Even though they pretended to be studying in high school, they were together and shared one other’s company at prom.

Roybal had to go to Arizona in 2016 to attend college to study communications, so the couple had to put their romance on hold. After a year, Roybal was invited to New York for a hockey competition, where he met Menecis Garriga and realized they couldn’t be apart, so Roybal officially requested his girlfriend to accompany him out in August 2018. This was the point at which they formally began their relationship and became the entities in each other’s personal space.
