An American baseball executive Brian Cashman is currently working for the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball. He started his journey with the Yankees since 1986 when he was just an intern while still in college.

Early Life and Education

Brian Cashman was born on 3rd of July 3 in the year 1967, in Washingtonville, New York. He was raised as Brian McGuire Cashman together with four siblings to parents, Nancy and John Cashman. He comes from an Iris Catholic background and holds an American nationality.

Cashman attended Lexington Catholic High School but later graduated from Georgetown Preparatory School in North Bethesda, Maryland in 1985. For his further studies after graduating high school, he joined the Catholic University of America. Since his childhood, he was active in sports which made him join college baseball for the Catholic Cardinals.

In addition, he was one of the players in the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Division III. He made the school record for most hits in a season during the Cardinals and the record has since been broken. Brian got his bachelor’s degree in 1989 with a history major.

Brian Cashman Professional Career

Cashman first started as an intern with the Yankees in 1986 while he was a college student. He was working in the minor league in his early days as a scouting department during the day and as security at night. Since his graduation, he got a position of an operations assistant by the Yankees.

In 1990, Due to George Steinbrenner banning the incident, Brian got the chance to assist Gene Michael which got him a promotion to assistant farm director that year. With his hard work, Cashman was able to climb the ranks and become the major league administrator in 1991 and Assistant General Manager in 1992.

Senior Vice-President and General Manager

In 1995, Michael got a promotion to the general manager and Cashman as his assistant general manager. Following year Yankees got their victory in the 1996 world series. In 1998, Brian earned the position as Senior Vice-President and General Manager after Watson left the Yankees. With his promotion came one year contract for $300,000, making him second-youngest general manager in MLB history.

The same year as his promotion, Yankees won the 1998 World Series. In his year of guidance, Yankees were able to win back to back with the 2000 World series which further solidified his talent to manage the team. Despite all that, Cashman got into the organizational dispute and thought of leaving the team in 2005.

However, with an amazing contract, Brian Cashman decided to stay with the team, getting more authority in personnel decisions and an average salary of $1.3 million over the following three years. With Brian’s management, the Yankees again won the 2009 World series due to his quick thinking of signing CC Sabathia, A. J. Burnett, and Mark Teixeira in trade for Nick Swisher.

Currently, Cashman is still in the business with the Yankees to this day. On December 11, 2017, he signed a 5-year contract with the Yankees for the role of General Manager with $25 million through 2022.
