She went to Esperanza High School in Anaheim, California, and was a cheerleader throughout her time there. She matriculated at California State University, Fullerton, where she earned a degree in communications with a specialty in television and video. However, she soon became obsessed with being a professional drag racer.

Force became a Top Alcohol Dragster Rookie in 2004, winning three of the season’s five final races and even sharing the winner’s circle with her father in one event. In 2007, she made the transition to the professional ranks, joining her father’s team, John Force Racing. She raced in a Castrol-sponsored Mustang, and she and her father made NHRA history by being the first father-daughter team to compete. Ashley won the race and advanced to the semifinals. She was also the first girl to compete in a TF/FC final round of a national series, however, she was defeated. Regardless, her accomplishments earned her the Rookie of the Year Award.

She advanced to the final round of three different contests the next year, and despite losing two of those final races, she became the first female racer to top the NHRA Funny Car point standings. Her final opponent for the third race was her father, who was racing for the 1000th round win of his career; she went on to win that competition and posted the weekend’s second-fastest time of 4.837 seconds.

Ashley won the second race of her career in 2009 and went on to compete in the US Nationals, becoming the first female driver to win at Indianapolis and the first female driver to win in two distinct classes. That year, she also earned her fourth and fifth career number one qualifying wins. Two years later, she became the President of John Force Entertainment, which focuses on media products and projects. She then revealed that she would be on leave that season due to her pregnancy, so her father drove her GTX Ford for the season.

Her sisters had also begun racing at this point, and Courtney would become the John Force team’s fourth driver, driving a Traxxas Ford Mustang. She later became the President of John Force Entertainment in 2012, and while not racing regularly in recent years, she has stated that her racing career is not ended. Ashley eventually announced her retirement from competitive racing. She did, however, test drive for John Force Racing in 2014 in order to renew her NHRA Funny Car license. The extension will allow her to act as a test or reserve driver if needed.
