Grimes

Grimes (actual name Claire Elise Boucher), A Canadian musician by the name of, she became well-known after the release of her third studio album, Visions. She began making music in the early 2000s as an independent artist, and her first two albums, Geidi Primes and Halifax, made their debut in 2010.

Grimes released Vision two years later, and the album earned her the Juno Award for Electronic Album of the Year. Her fourth studio album, Art Angels, was released in 2015 and debuted at the top of many magazines’ best album of the year lists. Miss Anthropocene, her fifth album, was released in 2020.

Where was Grimes born? Ethnicity, Nationality, Family

Grimes was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, on March 17, 1988. Her father is a former banker who now works in biotech, and her mother, Sandy Garossino, is a former prosecutor and advocate.

Even though Grimes does not identify as a Catholic, her parents raised her as one, and her early religious education has had an impact on her life. Genesis, her well-known song, was inspired by the Catholicism she practiced as a child. She remarked to Intro Magazin:

“My relatives are Catholic. I attended a Catholic university. Even though I am not Catholic, the song Genesis is sort of about nostalgia for the religious experience, and I wanted to create a video that kind of reflected how Catholicism appeared to my young mind—that is, as an action movie.

She spent a lot of time with her Ukrainian grandparents because her parents worked long hours. The language lingered with her because she overheard Russian being spoken about the house. It gave her the idea to include a poem in Russian on the cover of her breakthrough album, Visions. According to Grimes,

The lines are from two different poems by Anna Akhmatova, each of which takes a different stance on dying. She wrote a lot of poems about what it was like to be a girl in the scene, and I could sort of relate to that. She is a cool woman. Also, I like the way fonts look, so I wanted to write something on the cover.

Grimes had a notable grandfather who “locked [her] in a shipping container with a revolver” to protect Grimes from the people working on his property. Although he acknowledged the account, her brother thought it was more like a shed than a cargo container.

Grimes’s competitiveness was honed by having four brothers as roommates while growing up

She had two biological brothers and two stepbrothers when she was growing up, which honed her competitive spirit.

Grimes told Rolling Stone, “I remember being brilliant at this Pokemon video game because it was this ego stuff that I had to beat. I competed in track and field to improve my speed so I could run over my fucking brothers.

Grimes had a different perspective on gender as a result of growing up alone among brothers. As she stated to The Fader, she wasn’t reared as a boy or a girl and consequently “fucking gives a crap about gender.” Grimes expressed her dislike for gender-based classifications in the music business to The Fader. She clarified:

“The thing that annoys me about the music business is when people start saying things like, ‘Grimes is a female musician,’ or ‘Grimes has a girlie voice,’ all of a sudden. It’s like, sure, but I’m a producer and I spend all day looking at fucking graphs and EQs and doing extremely technical work.”

When it comes to raising their child, Grimes and her partner Elon Musk have embraced gender-neutral parenting.

In a YouTube Livestream, Grimes stated, “I don’t want to gender them in case that’s not how they feel in their lives.
