Yeni Malatyaspor has reported that Turkish goalkeeper Ahmet Eyup Turkaslan has perished as a result of the catastrophic earthquake that devastated his own country.

The goalie was reported missing on February 6 following the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck near the city of Gaziantep and also had an effect on neighboring Syria. His deceased body was later recovered beneath the rubble.

“Our goalie, Ahmet Eyup Turkaslan, perished in the fall of the building during the earthquake. “May he rest in peace,” the team tweeted.

“We shall not forget you, lovely individual,” they wrote.

After joining the club in 2021, Turkaslan, age 28, played six matches for Yeni Malatyaspo in the Turkish second tier.

Christian Atsu, a former forward for Chelsea and Newcastle, is one of the casualties of the catastrophic earthquakes in Turkey. He was rescued from a collapsing building’s debris.

The Ghanaian international is a member of the Turkish team Hatayspor. A club official informed Turkish media on Monday that Atsu was believed to be in a building destroyed by the 7.8 magnitude earthquake and aftershocks that slammed southern Turkey and Syria.

The death toll surpassed 7,700 and is anticipated to grow further.

The whereabouts and condition of Christian Atsu were unknown until the Ghana FA tweeted on Tuesday, “We have got positive news that he has been successfully rescued.”

Atsu was receiving care, but the GFA did not provide information regarding his injuries.
