After 70 years, Agatha Christie’s West End Smash Will Go To Broadway

Agatha Christie

The premiere of Agatha Christie’s whodunit took place at Nottingham’s Theatre Royal on November 25, 1952. She had first anticipated that it would only last for eight months.

The Mousetrap, the drama with the longest-running run in history, will debut on Broadway for the first time next year as it celebrates its 70th anniversary on Friday.

However, it has subsequently established itself as a West End staple, with approximately 29,000 performances and 10 million viewers.

The play has been performed before in the US, but never on Broadway.

The play’s fame was raised when it was included in the current murder mystery movie See How They Run, which led to its transfer to Broadway.

The movie stars Saoirse Ronan, Ruth Wilson, Adrien Brody, David Oyelowo, and Sam Rockwell and is set in 1953 during the 100th performance of the play.

Although they have not yet been made public, well-known names have been promised for the Broadway cast of the show.

Given Christie’s ongoing appeal, its producers have stated that this is an opportune time for it to premiere in New York.

Upon hearing the announcement, co-producer Kevin McCollum expressed his “thrill” and stated he was “happy for the large Christie following in North America, as well as for the acting company in New York who will join the illustrious ranks of The Mousetrap alumni.”

The location and performance times for the Broadway run have not yet been made public.

There will also be a special lunchtime matinee performance on Friday in London for some of the individuals who have already contributed to or been engaged in the production.

A touring production of The Mousetrap celebrating its 70th anniversary began in September and will stop at more than 70 locations across the UK and Ireland to commemorate the occasion.
