The actress Suzanne Somers, who founded a health and wellness business and starred in sitcoms like Three’s Company and Step by Step, passed away at the age of 76.

Just one day before turning 77, Suzanne Somers passed away, according to a statement provided to Rolling Stone by her publicist, R. Couri Hay, on Sunday. Somers had previously disclosed that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000, but that it had returned earlier in the year.

Suzanne Somers departed from this life in a calm manner at home on October 15, early in the morning. In a statement, Hay said,

“She has over 23 years of survival from an aggressive form of breast cancer.” Her family had gathered to celebrate her birthday tomorrow, she added.

Rather, they will honor her remarkable life and express their gratitude to the millions of admirers and followers who cherished her. This week will see a private family burial; next month will see a commemoration.

During the 1970s, Somers gained popularity for her role as the snazzy Chrissy Snow in the sitcom Three’s Company, which followed two women who live with a man who pretends to be gay.

After its 1977 debut, the series was a smash and instantly elevated the actress to the status of a sex icon. But after a protracted contract conflict with producers, Somers was ultimately fired from the show in 1981, after five seasons.

Ten years later, Somers returned to primetime as the mother in the seven-season ABC sitcom Step by Step, a T.G.I.F. comedy.

Other noteworthy performances by Suzanne Somers include her short-lived but memorable part as the “Blonde in the T-Bird” in American Graffiti, her self-deprecating cameo in John Waters’ Serial Mom, and endless hours of Thighmaster infomercials.

In July, Suzanne Somers who also wrote numerous books on health and wellness, some of which were viewed with suspicion—disclosed that she had relapsed from breast cancer, which she had fought 23 years previously.

Suzanne Somers stated at the time on Instagram, “As you know, I had breast cancer two decades ago, and every now and then it pops up again, and I continue to bat it down.”

“To tackle it, I’ve used the best conventional and alternative remedies. For me, this is not unfamiliar ground. I am a fighter who knows how to put on my combat armor.
