According To Charlie Mackesy : Book Becomes BBC Movie To Artist’s Delight

Charlie Mackesy

The encounter was “surreal,” according to the author and artist of a book that was adapted into a short film that will air on BBC One later. The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse by Charlie Mackesy will be broadcast at 16:55 GMT and made accessible on iPlayer shortly after.

Mr. Mackesy claimed that he spent two years in Suffolk, where his family resides, working on the movie.

Seeing his characters move on screen, according to him, was “a joy.”

He explained,

“It started as a series of sketches for friends that I posted on Instagram.

“It was never intended to be a book at first. We made the decision to give it a try, and the results shocked us greatly.”

Since then, more than eight million copies of the book have been sold worldwide.

As they travel together in the child’s search for a home, a boy, a mole, a fox, and a horse form an unexpected relationship.

Tom Hollander plays the mole in the movie, Idris Elba OBE plays the fox, Gabriel Byrne plays the horse, and Jude Coward Nicoll plays the youngster. The film also stars Gabriel Byrne as the horse.

According to Mr. Mackesy, he had a significant role in the process of making the book into a movie.

I do recall just screaming and running around the garden when the boy first moved, the man recalled.

I hope people like seeing the sound, movement, color, and vision come together.

The characters, according to Mr. Mackesy, were developed between his Brixton, South London, and his family’s house in Suffolk, but he claimed that all of his work on the movie was “completely in Suffolk.”
