Wiggins began his freshman season as a starter but later told coach Mark Turgeon that he felt more at ease coming off the bench. He began his career as a freshman for Maryland, where he spent the majority of his time among his teammates’ reserves. Aaron contributed to the team’s season-high of 15 points despite losses to Michigan and Michigan State. He finished the season with an average of 8.3 points and 3.3 rebounds in 23.5 minutes per game. On February 23, 2020, he set a season-high with 20 points while making six three-pointers in a 79-79 loss to Ohio State.
As a sophomore, he averaged 10.4 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game. Later, he was named Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year. In the final game of his junior season, he rushed for a career-high 27 points in a 96-77 loss to Alabama in the NCAA Tournament’s second round. He was declared NBA draft-eligible on April 9, 2021, while still in college. He later decided to stay in the draft and forego his college career.
