A Presenter, David Olusoga Will Receive A Special Award

David Olusoga

David Olusoga, a presenter and historian, will receive a Bafta award for his outstanding contribution to television. Bafta has announced that the University of Manchester professor who presented BBC Two’s A House Through Time will be honored on May 14.

This distinction, one of the organization’s highest honors, has previously been presented to actors Idris Elba and Sir Lenny Henry, as well as journalist Clive James.

David Olusoga stated that it was “humbling” to have his work acknowledged in this manner.

Through his work on a number of BBC series, including Civilisations, Black, and British: A Forgotten History, and A House Through Time, as well as his appearances on BBC One’s The One Show, the historian has become a familiar visage to many.

‘Inspiring’

Prof. Olusoga, who was born in Nigeria and raised in Gateshead, has previously stated that working in television was “the best job in the world” but that his career sometimes left him feeling “crushed, isolated, and powerless.”

His 2015 series Britain’s Forgotten Slave Owners won the specialist factual category at the 2016 Bafta ceremony.

Five years after graduating from the University of Liverpool in 1994, the historian began his television career. He stated that he was “honored” to receive the special award.

“It is humbling to have my work as a television producer and host acknowledged in this way,” he continued.

Jane Millichip, the chief executive officer of Bafta, stated that the historian had made an “outstanding contribution not only to the television community but also to our society and culture.”

She stated that his “commitment and courage in reevaluating how history is presented on television is inspiring” and that he exemplified “television’s ability to inspire, educate, and challenge”
